FireNEX COAX S800 75ohm COAX BNC FireWire 800 IEEE1394b Repeater Kit

Posted on 12:23 by Unknown

FireNEX COAX S800 75ohm COAX BNC FireWire 800 IEEE1394b Repeater KitThe FireNEX-COAX-S800 uses flexible coaxial cabling to provide reliable FireWire 800 transmission up to 60 meters (196 feet). There are several advantages in using a standard 75 Ohm coax cable, like wide availability, excellent EMC performance, low cost connections, enabling of terminations by end users, and the possibility of using existing cabling infrastructure. Since each FireNEX-COAX-S800 repeater has two IEEE 1394b FireWire 800 ports it can also be used as a hub for daisy chain connections.

A FireNEX-COAX-S800 set includes two FireNEX COAX S800 75ohm COAX BNC FireWire 800 IEEE1394b repeaters and a manual. An available DC power jack lets you connect an optional power supply (purchased separately), such as the FIRENEX-POWER. COAX cable and FireWire/IEEE1394b cables are not included. The repeaters feature industrial standard screw locking for 1394b ports.

Oriented towards industrial and machine vision applications, FireRepeater-800 PRO™ provides the ability to connect up to four FireWire 1394b devices and it's metallic compact case minimizes the risk of physical damage. The platform agnostic device provides four 9 pin (bilingual) IEEE 1394b ports with a maximum throughput of up to 800 Mbps each. The Hub utilizes IEEE 1394b bus power, or accepts an optional power adapter for use with devices requiring more power. Repeater hubs provide bus flexibility in that they allow for daisy chaining and/or hierarchical (tree) bus configurations. Repeater hubs also provide a means to lengthen the distance between devices when 1394's cable length of 4.5 meters (15 feet) is inadequate. Simply daisy chain repeaters between cables to extend your reach to 110m. FireRepeater 800 Pro incorporates locking 9 pin bilingual ports, multiple mounting points and an optional metal bracket to ensure an even more secure physical connection.

Creating Fastest Portable RAW Photo Import for Pro-Photojournalists

Posted on 15:05 by Unknown

FireRepeater 800 & CFFire800 Pros
Originally uploaded by Synchrotech
When sports photojournalists from tallahassee.com contacted Synchrotech for a specialized solution to improve their RAW DSLR photograph ingestion work-flow, we had to be creative. The photographers had the following requirements for a solution: it had to fully utilize the speeds of the latest UDMA CompactFlash memory cards, it had to ingest at least two UDMA CompactFlash cards at once, it couldn't require an external power source, it had to work with Camera Bits' Photo Mechanic software, and it had to work with Apple's MacBook Pro.

Meeting any one of those prerequisites was no problem, but meeting all those requirements was a tall order. The UDMA speed requirements were no problem; both Synchrotech's CFFire800 Pro and CFExpressPro+ CompactFlash readers work with the fastest UDMA CompactFlash memory cards. The MacBook Pro features both a FireWire 800 port and an ExpressCard slot, making either product compatible. Unfortunately, only the CFFire800 Pro works with Photo Mechanic software. This presented another problem: the MacBook Pro only provides a single FireWire 800 port; adding more FireWire 800 ports via the ExpressCard would require an external power supply to power the CFFire800 Pro readers.

Unibrain 9pin to 9pin Cable 1M
SanDisk Extreme FireWire
While our CFFire800 Pro uses FireWire bus power, we knew it draws less than 500mA, while the MacBook Pro provides just under 1A of current while running on batteries. One product we offer, Unibrain's extremely portable FireRepeater 800, splits source current between two ports. With that in mind we set out to test two CFFire800 Pro readers with FireRepeater 800 to see if it provided enough power off a single FireWire 800 port to enable both CompactFlash readers; we found it worked flawlessly.

When we informed the tallahassee.com photographers of our findings, they were elated. Since they already had an investment in SanDisk's Extreme FireWire 800 CompactFlash readers, they purchased and tested the FireRepeater 800 to dual reader configuration and had the same success. They are now deploying this solution at their location shoots.

Synchrotech is proud to offer our innovative UDMA CompactFlash ingestion solution as a bundle package to photographers requiring the fastest turnaround on their work-flows. While the Sandisk reader combination is also available, it is a UDMA Mode 4 device; the CFFire800 Pro is UDMA Mode 6 capable.

Synchrotech Now Offering Two FireWire 800 Repeater Hubs

Posted on 10:40 by Unknown
In response to the surging demand for FireWire 800 (IEEE 1394b) products, Synchrotech is now carrying two high quality FireWire repeater hubs. These performance oriented FireWire 800 repeater hubs offer unique capabilities and meet port capacity requirements for a range of FireWire 800 users.

FireWire 800 Repeater HubThe first, the NitroAV 8 Port Repeater Hub, is a rugged, robust, and very high performance FireWire 800 repeater hub with a generous array of 8 FireWire 800 ports. NitroAV comes with a power supply and also supports alternate power connections for rack-mount applications. It's metal casing is ideal for studio and production environments.

FireWire 800 Repeater HubFor less demanding or portable applications, Unibrain's FireRepeater 800 FireWire IEEE 1394b Repeater Hub is a lightweight 3 Port hub. FireRepeater 800 works out of the box with FireWire 800 bus power applications, or usable with purchase of an optional power supply.

Both FireWire 800 Repeater hubs are usable in FireWire 800 (IEEE 1394b) and FireWire 400 (IEEE 1394a/iLink) work-flows. See our FireWire 400 and FireWire 800 Cables and IEEE 1394 Connectors page for appropriate cables and converters to mix and match existing FireWire products. Repeater hubs provide bus flexibility in that they allow for daisy chaining and/or hierarchical (tree) bus configurations. Repeater hubs also provide a means to lengthen the distance between devices when 1394's cable length of 4.5 meters is inadequate. Simply daisy chain repeaters between cables to extend your reach to 110m.

Inexpensive adapter allows use of CFFire800 Pro with FireWire 400 ports

Posted on 15:45 by Unknown
CFFire800 with AdapterCustomers wanting a FireWire 400 option for the CFFire800 Pro FireWire 800 to CompactFlash Drive Read-Writer can now purchase the CAB-FW8-9-6-CONV FireWire 800 IEEE1394b 9pin (female) to 6pin (male) Converter Plug. The converter allows use of FireWire 800 devices like the CFFire800 Pro with host computers featuring 6-pin FireWire 400 ports. Using a converter reduces the overall throughput of the CFFire800 to that of FireWire 400 (400Mb/s or 50MB/s). However, Synchrotech's internal testing, and tests by a popular independent Digital camera site have found high performance FireWire 400 CompactFlash readers outperform the fastest USB 2.0 readers.

9-pin to 6-pin FireWire Adapter for CFFire800 Arriving soon

Posted on 14:13 by Unknown
FireWire 800 to 400 9 to 6-pinSynchrotech received many inquiries regarding using the CFFire800 Pro FireWire 800 to CompactFlash Drive Read-Writer with 6-pin FireWire 400 ports. In response Synchrotech will introduce the CAB-FW4-9-6-CONV, a simple minded converter plug that accepts a male 9-pin FireWire 800 plug and converts it to a male 6-pin FireWire 400 plug for use with FireWire 400 ports. This reduces the overall throughput of the CFFire800 to that of 1394a FireWire 400 (400Mb/s or 50MB/s). However, both Synchrotech's internal testing, and that of a popular independent Digital camera site have found that high performance FireWire 400 CompactFlash readers handily outperform the fastest USB 2.0 readers.

The CAB-FW4-9-6-CONV isn't just restricted to use with the CFFire800, any FireWire application is fine. Price and availability on the CAB-FW4-9-6-CONV will appear shortly on Synchrotech's site.
