Add new life to older desktop computers by providing them SuperSpeed USB 3.0 connectivity

Posted on 15:36 by Unknown

PCI to SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Host Adapter 4 Port I/O Flex PU430The I/O Flex PU430 PCI to SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Host Adapter 4 Port brings new life to older desktop computers by providing them SuperSpeed USB 3.0 connectivity. The PCI card adapter is fully backward compatible with existing USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 devices, and connects with SuperSpeed USB 3.0 hard drive enclosures, SSD enclosures, backup RAIDS, video converters, printers, and hundreds of other devices while enabling the use of high performance device that were once reserved only for high speed buses like eSATA and FireWire. Able to offer most of the usable bandwidth of SuperSpeed USB, the PU430 is limited to a maximum of 2.133Gbps transfer rates [1] because of the limitations of PCI. However, that's an amazing improvement over USB 2.0, and the PU430 PCI USB 3.0 solution provides over twice (200+%) the performance gain over on-board USB 2.0, and is only 30% slower than the maximum speed USB 3.0 can achieve in PCI-Express (PCIe) slots.

The adapter provides four (4) external USB 3.0 ports. The I/O Flex PU430 PCI to SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Host Adapter features both 15-pin SATA power connector and mini 4-pin power connector for added power source to better support power hungry bus-powered devices. Easy USB installation makes adding new hardware a breeze, with no complex configuration, confusing plug-ins, or IRQs. Connect up to 127 USB products to PCs. Ready for use with self-powered devices, or plug any available 15-pin SATA Power Connector into the onboard connecter for devices requiring bus power.

Benchmarks: PU430 PCI to SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Host Adapter

Video: FarSync BERT Line Tester USB/PCIe operation, installation and features

Posted on 13:22 by Unknown

Both the PCIe and USB based BERT devices are available on our site at FarSite FarSync Bit Error Rate Test (BERT) line quality tester devices, software and cables

Demonstration in the use, installation and features of the FarSync BERT Tester. It provides a comprehensive, simple to use, all in one, line testing utility for testing asynchronous and synchronous lines from your Laptop or PC. All the popular standard BERT test patterns can be selected; the test period can be controlled; real time error counters and full line test statistics are provided as well as support for user controlled error injection.

Lines with network interfaces RS232 (V.24), V.35, RS530 (EIA530), RS422, X.21 (V.11), and RS449 can be tested with line speeds ranging from 15 baud up to 2 Mbits/s or to over 10 Mbit/s for the PCIe dual port card version.

The FarSync Flex adapter is simply plugged into any of your Laptop's USB ports or a PCIe slot; select one of the cables provided to connect to the line to be tested; the BERT application can then be started and the line quality results are displayed in real time.

API access for LabVIEW or Windows applications enables the tests to be run, and the results obtained, programmatically.

FarSync T4E+ Additional Features

Posted on 15:45 by Unknown
FarSync T4E+ Additional Features
FarSite's T4E+ card differs from their standard T4E card in the following ways:

Manchester encoding is supporting up to 10 MBits/s where the clock for the data is taken from the incoming data line. This means separate clock lines are not required. Manchester encoding is a soft configurable alternative to NRZ.

Line termination is supported on all the balanced pair signals for X.21 (V.11), V.35, RS530 (EIA530, RS422) and RS449 (RS422 signalling) operation. The line termination resistors may be soft selected to be selected or deselected on a port by port basis. The addition of line termination resistors can be helpful in improving signal quality on long high speed lines.

For more information and links to datasheets on both devices see the Synchrotech product page.

Need USB 2.0 to Synchronous/Asynchronous Serial Networking Capabilities?

Posted on 14:16 by Unknown
FarSync Flex USBThe FarSync Flex USB Sync/Async Adapter works with X.21, RS530, V.35, RS449, RS485 and RS232C network interfaces operating at serial line speeds up to 2 Mbits/s. FarSync Flex USB provides as single port and is designed to provide a high performance communications solution for use with TCP/IP and an API for companies who wish to quickly develop their own communications solutions. The API permits HDLC framed and transparent bit stream operation from Linux and Windows. The FarSync Flex software and drivers on Windows and Linux can now support 2 wire RS485 operation. All existing FarSync Flex devices can be upgraded to support RS485. This new RS485 serial support adds line types of 2 wire (half duplex) RS485; multi drop and single ended, with line speeds of up to 512 Kbits/s, and with NRZI, FM1 or FM0 signaling modes.

Best in Class for Court Reporters and Stenographers

Posted on 12:32 by Unknown
PCIe Based ExpressCard to RS-232 AdapterCourt reporters and stenographers often deploy steno machines featuring RS-232 Serial ports (often called COM ports in Windows-speak). Some transcription software packages for court reporters and stenographers require hardware keys that are RS-232 Serial port based as well. In many cases, USB to Serial devices don't work with steno machines or transcription software package hardware keys. In the past, a PC Card based RS-232 adapter was the optimal solution for notebook computers to interface with these devices.

With the transition to ExpressCard slots on notebook computers, there a number of ExpressCard to RS-232 serial adapters that don't work because they utilize the USB portion of the ExpressCard standard. As mentioned above, USB to Serial devices typically don't work with steno machines or transcription software package hardware keys. Fortunately there is a solution to this situation. Synchrotech offers the Quatech Performance PCIe based RS-232 Serial ExpressCards. Being PCIe based, these ExpressCards are true RS-232 host adapters and don't exhibit the compatibility issues that USB based devices suffer from. For court reporters and stenographers with ExpressCard equipped notebook computers needing to interface with RS-232 Serial ports on steno machines or transcription software package hardware keys, PCIe based RS-232 ExpressCards are the perfect solution.
