We recently posted What happened to Elan Digital Systems Ltd's website? discussing the disposition of Elan. As promised, we've begun to collect files and are making them available for download. Depending on traffic, we might not keep them at these current locations, but we will update this page whenever there are any changes. What happened to Elan Digital Systems Ltd's website?

Roughly a year or so ago, British firm Elan Digital Systems Ltd went into liquidation. We, like many others, expected their assets to be purchased by another firm, or at the very least, for their liquidator to make some announcement of the disposition of their assets.

Unfortunately, that never happened, and around December of 2012, Elan's website went dark. Had we know this was going to happen, we would have archived the contents of their site. This leave countless Elan customers in a bind, with no access to support, troubleshooting, or download pages. From our standpoint, customers deserve access to these items for the foreseeable future.

Fortunately, the Internet Archives Wayback Machine archived the Elan site on November 5, 2012. Unfortunately, their are some binaries that aren't archived. Over the next few months, we will download and archive all the binaries and important support documents we can. We will also go through out remaining stock of Elan items and make ISO image copies of install CDROMS for items that aren't available on the website. Check back here for updates on this project.

Furthermore, we wrote to Elan's liquidator requesting the files for Elan's defunct website. Having the original files from their server would speed up the archival process. For customers interested in contacting the liquidator directly, we will provide the information below. Perhaps if enough customers write them, they will be disposed to helping out with this important project.

Correct A-331/A-341 PCIe to SATA Jumper Settings

Surprisingly, the instruction booklet that accompanies the A-331/A-341 PCIe to SATA devices causes some confusion among a very small segment of end users in terms of jumper settings for SATA port selection.

Here is the text and images from the booklet:

Note: There are four SATA ports in PCIe SATA II 300 2-Channel RAID Card. We named these ports A to D. Ports A & B are external SATA ports and C & D are internal SATA ports. By changing the jumper setting on Encore SATA2 RAID PCIe Card that allows you to select between external and internal ports to use. By default, Port C and D are working.

Reading the instructions, a few things stand out. First off, the instructions state that Ports C and D are the default settings, and hence the internal SATA ports are the out of the box configuration. To change a port, the entire bank grouping must be relocated (this is where most people are confused), in other words all jumpers from either bank (groups of four J1-J4, or J5-J8) need be in the same position (ie. all 1-2 OR all 2-3).

To simplify this by providing the most obvious example. To switch from the default settings of both internal ports to both the external ports, one would move all the jumpers to position 1-2 closed. In other words, move every jumper to the opposite position they are already set at!

Remember, A and C are mutually exclusive, as are B and D. Hence, a mixed one internal port and one external port configuration can only consist of A and D, OR B and C.

Elan USB T&M Devices CD-ROM for The Vista

The latest from Elan regarding their software for their USB Test and Measurement devices:

We have released a new installation CD for the test and measurement products.

There has been no change to the drivers themselves, but the CD has been changed to reduce installation problems that some customers encountered in Windows VISTA.

During the installation the INF files required to install the hardware are automatically placed into the Windows/INF folder. When the hardware is plugged in, selecting 'search automatically' for drivers should prompt the O/S to find them there. However VISTA (for some reason unknown to us) does not find the files in the INF folder all of the time, so sometimes the installation does not suceeed automatically and the user is them prompted to find the INF files 'by hand'. (Which can be a labourous process for a user who is not familiar with where they should be.)

This new CD image includes the INF files directly in a folder on the installation CD, as it appears that the new hardware wizard in VISTA will search the CD for the driver files. Please see link below:

Alternatives for the ADP-MULTI5-PC

Unfortunately the latest batch of ICs (integrated circuits) for the ADP-MULTI5-PC were bad, and we cannot manufacture more until we have good ICs. We are looking at probably late-October before we are able to ship the ADP-MULTI5-PC. Alternatively we have two different products that might be suitable alternatives.

For 32-bit CardBus capable PC Card slots, we have the ADP-MULTI5-PC32. It supports the exact same memory cards as the ADP-MULTI5-PC and allows for faster data transfer.

For 16-bit PC Card slots we also carry the ADP-MULTI6-PC. This device is based on an older design and doesn't support the newer SDHC and SD Card 2.0 standards. If you are using the older style SD Cards, or any of the other cards it supports, you should be fine.

Our MotionFlash32 USB 2.0 based reader also handles SDHC (SD 2.0).

DuelAdapter Unsupported Systems List

Synchrotech has obtained a more comprehensive list of systems with ExpressCard firmware issues and are known not to work with the DuelAdapter. Some other ExpressCard equipped computers may also have compatibility issues, this list is by no means comprehensive. This list of unsupported systems represents a very small fraction of ExpressCard capable computers, most systems on the market work exceedingly well with the DuelAdapter.
